This project was a part of a longer print project including three other poems, so a sense of neutrality was needed to tie them together. I chose to use simple typefaces and a heavy cream cardstock for print.

I was inspired by the organization and elegance of recipe books, which is were the linear elements come from.

It’s organized in such a way that each line feels like instruction, however I chose to keep a rag-edge to tie it back to the funky heading and quote text.

For the bastardized text I used Cochin Regular and for the body Minion Variable Concept. Because the piece is so emotional, the abstract kerning is to imitate the voice of the writing.

Each page alternates between significant white space justified to the bottom or a full page of text to emphasize the body text versus the pull quotes across the spread.
